WE ARE DAUGTHERS OF THE MOON
Lunar Cycles
As women we need to recognize more often how the lunar cycles interact with the earth, the oceans, the hair growth, the animal rhythms and our hormonal cycles. In our bodies we have little points and areas that are sensible to the planetary changes, to our thought patterns, to our diet, and to our lifestyle. These are points where the gross parts of us (muscles, bones and tissues) give way to an opening to “dissolve” into a more subtle energy. These openings are sensitive doors that can produce changeable and challenging desires and feelings.
Understanding the Female’s Emotional Palette
Woman holds the emotional flow of energy, hormones and imagination. Women don’t like to acknowledge this mystery and responsibility. We prefer to adopt a position that is aloof, unkind and separate from the understanding of these cycles. The more we separate ourselves from the relationship between the macro and micro cosmos, the more overwhelmed, powerless and confused we become. On the other hand, the knowledge can offer us a space of inner completion and satisfaction.
The Divine Fluctuation
According to yogic teachings, the woman has 11 lunar centres (not related to the moon cycle) which are activated in her body on a 28-day cycle. The energy is stationary at each location for 2½ days. The sequence varies from woman to woman, but unless there is an emotional shock, it will remain constant in us. A sensitive observation of these cycles can predict many emotional openings as well as having the patience and understanding that they will pass. Life can be much easier for us if we mach the tendencies that these centers offer us with our agendas.
Where They Are and What They Do for Us.
Our emotions will change as the moon centres fluctuate
1- The hairline. Apa / Utkshepa / Shankha Marmas (marmas near temple and top of ears)
When the energy is in this center we are at our best. We feel centered, outgoing, safe and connected. We are authoritative, sensitive, all knowing, and with a communication that is fair, neutral and integral. We are closely to our truth, we can display it with confidence and we are able to provide to our self-reassurance. We are able to project and manifest to our families and work place whatsoever we want.
2- Cheeks (the pink of the cheeks) Apanga marma. This is the centre of fire. Many irrational emotions can overwhelm us with reactions, commotions and rebelliousness. We lose perspective of our peacefulness and our self-control. Our obsessive minds can haunt us by putting our weaknesses, judgments and doubts in the foreground. This is a good time to get close to your practice and to pray for God’s grace.
3- Lips. Shringataka (Sarasvati Nadi & Vishuddha Chakra & Nila and Manya Marmas)
This centre is about food and about communication. If your food is balanced, and your body under the sweetness of meditation, your communication will be soft, coherent and effective. Your communication will be uplifting, powerful and factual for you and the ones around you. If your diet is poor and meditation is not your friend, your communication will be explosive, harsh, hurtful and unproductive.
4- Sun spot on the ear lobes. Vidhura marma (Payasvini & Shankhini Nadis)
This is a space where we reflect about inner and outer values. It is our capacity to reflect on morality, on what is good and what is bad, what is fair and what is unjust. We will have the tendency to analyze our own personality traits as well as the ones of people around us.
5- Back of the neck. Krikatikas / Siramatrikas marmas.
This centre offers us the possibility to explore what is new in an illogical way. It is explorative, sensitive and romantic. Ideas that are out of the ordinary attract us, we are able to take risks, and to propose unusual creative projects. If we are able to freely give space for this 2 ½ days of exploration without any outcomes we can renew ourselves by flirting with life. It is not a good time however to plan logical meetings or concrete work.
6- Breasts. Hridaya / Stanamula marma (Varuna Nadi & Anahata Chakra)
The unconditional compassion comes to us at this time, we are easily over-giving or overextending. However this can be a time of wonderful self-care and compassion. It is a time either of being tired and fatigued by our mental list of things to do, be and to give, or possibly a space of divine support and acceptance. We are genuine, giving, and generous. We need to be mindful of our boundaries, unclear goals or low self-esteem. This is a good time to meet people in need of love and support, to go shopping for that dress you want or to nourish yourself with a good dessert.
7- Either the belly button area or the corresponding area on the back of the spine. Nabhi marma(Vishvodhara, Hastijihva & Yashasvati Nadis, and Manipura Chakra)
This area can offer us power or defeat. Either we are sensitive to the opinions of others, or we are assertive in what we want. To prevent any inner defeats, self-criticism and insecurities we can use a good laugh to strengthen this area and to activate a certain sense of gravity and containment.
8- Inner thigh. Urvi marma. When the energy is in this area, we are ready to be productive and to make our plans flourish until the end. It is the time to assert, confirm and get things done. It is a challenge to take one thing at a time since we would like to complete everything that was planned in a month in these 2½ days. We need to be present and drop any obsession of action. We certainly will succeed in confirming our will and get that basement clean regardless of what others have to say.
9- Eyebrow. Sthapani marma (Sushumna Nadi & Anja Chakra) Illusion, imagination and time to dream have come when the energy is in this centre. This is the time when we want a certain solitude to enjoy our deepest dreams and visions, they are not necessary practical but will give us a poetic heart, a sweet view of life, a child-like attitude, a playful moment where everything is possible in our mind, including that romantic vacation we cannot afford.
10- Clitoris or Membrane in the vagina Vastih / Lohitaksha / Vitapam (Kuda Nadi & Basti Marma & Svadhishthana Chakra). We want company, we want to talk, we want friends and a network that sustains our charm, outgoing energy and social charm. We look outside, we are aware of our dress, our walk and our ability to meet new people.
May our diversity be sustained with a balanced diet, exercise, yoga and meditation, so we can observe and grow in our emotional tendencies. Each cycle may be an opportunity to know ourselves better, to create patience with the stage we are in, and to face challenging moments like puberty, menopause and pregnancy with that inner intelligence.
